It is with great pleasure and anticipation that I welcome you to the 22nd African Water and Sanitation Association International Congress and Exhibition (AfWASA ICE2025) taking place in Kampala – Uganda 16 – 20th February 2025. This year also marks the 45th Anniversary of AfWASA. As AfWASA we are proud of the achievements thus far.
This Congress under theme “Water and Sanitation for all: A secure future for Africa” has been carefully chosen. With 5 years to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 target, Africa is off track with meeting the SDG 6 2030 target. We are still grappling with various challenges in the water and sanitation sector. The Congress therefore provides the opportunity for professionals drawn from the African continent and other parts of the world to share knowledge, experiences, new breakthroughs and innovations that should provide the necessary impetus to accelerate attainment of SDG6 and also ensuring a secure future for Africa.
Furthermore, dear delegates, this Congress will mark the inauguration of the African Water and Sanitation Academy (AWASA) that is to be hosted here in Kampala – Uganda. This is yet another vehicle to build the necessary capacity to accelerate safe water and sanitation services for all in Africa.
We have prepared a rich programme that will provide a platform for rich dialogue, networking and reflection. The programme shall have technical sessions, poster sessions, special forums, a high-level symposium and workshops. We are introducing for the first time in AfWASA one to one sessions, an operations challenge and round table exchange sessions. There will be an exhibition that will show case innovations, cutting edge technological solutions and enable the industry and manufacturers interact with the practitioners, researchers and policy makers.
The programme shall also allow you our delegates to have time to relax and enjoy the city built on 20 hills, that never sleeps. You will also have time to visit the rich touristic sites in the country and have a taste of the Ugandan culture.
